Hoping Japanese Canon Workers Don’t Become the New Model for the Corporate World!

May 31, 2009

(ChattahBox)—”Lets rush–if we don’t then the company and world will perish.” Those chilling Orwellian words are printed across the floors of a large Canon Electronics factory in Japan. A stark reminder to factory workers to pick up their pace, as they are nothing more than cogs in a machine who are easily replaced. Read more

Cuba accepts US inivitation for talks on immigration

May 31, 2009

(ChattahBox) — After a half-century of chilly ties and an economic embargo things may be thawing out quickly between the US and Cuba. In March in what was perceived as an initial bid to rekindle a relationship with Cuba,, President Barack Obama eased restrictions on visits to the Communist island by Cuban-Americans and allowed them to send money and medicine home more easily. Cuba initially gave mixed signals about how willing it was to respond to the Obama administration’s overtures. Now a top US official said Cuba had sent a diplomatic note accepting a recent US invitation to restart talks on issues ranging from immigration, terrorism, disaster relief and drug trafficking cooperation. The communist nation also presented a separate note agreeing to a U.S. request proposing talks about direct mail service, which has been suspended for decades.

Israel defies US settlement freeze call to it’s own detriment

May 31, 2009

(ChattahBox) — It’s kind of surprised me that Israel has defiantly rejected US demands to halt all settlement activity in the occupied territory of the West Bank, as the Obama administration tries to set the stage for a two state Middle East peace solution.  Senior members of Israel’s cabinet have broadcast their refusal to bow to American demands, with officials accusing Washington of preferential treatment towards the Palestinians. Interior Minister Eli Yishai of Shas told his fellow cabinet ministers today that the US demand on settlement activity was tantamount to “expulsion.  Science Minister and Habayit Hayehudi head Daniel Herschkowitz even went one step farther Sunday into the fringe, in referring to US President Barack Obama’s demand to freeze all settlement activity, even that ensuing from natural growth: Read more

Susan Boyle finishes second in ‘Britain’s Got Talent’!

May 30, 2009

(ChattahBox) — To me it was nothing ventured nothing gained in the case of Susan Boyle who finished second to the ten-person dance crew Diversity on Britain’s Got Talent .

Boyle chose to sing the same song  (video below) that first brought her fame, “I Dreamed a Dream.” We all know how beautifully she can sing that song, but at least I was hoping to see her show she could wow us again with something new.  Perhaps playing it safe left the audience feeling the same way. In a post-performance interview, she said she still “hopes to get an album out,” but as to the immediate future, “Who knows? I’ll play it by ear.”

Congratulations to Diversity (performance below) who won 100,000 pounds and gets the honor of performing before Queen Elizabeth II in the Royal Variety Show in December.
