Jon and Kate Gosselin show becomes Just Kate Plus 8
September 29, 2009
(ChattahBox) — After months of embarrassing tabloid coverage and messy talk show finger-pointing from reality TV couple Jon and Kate Gosselin, whose show chronicled the challenges of raising eight children, something had to give. TLC is now retooling its hit show Jon and Kate Plus 8 to reflect the change: the next season will simply be Kate Plus 8 as of November 2nd. “Given Jon’s recent antics, there was no way the show could continue to portray him as a doting Dad,“ an insider told People. ”Not while all this other crap was going on.” The dramatic split had initially been ratings gold for the network, but since then the ratings have quite simply imploded: After six-weeks of re-runs, only 4.2-million watched on August 7. And well less than 2-million tuned in last week.

Senate Committee Votes Against Public Option Proposal in Health Care Bill
September 29, 2009
(ChattahBox) — The Senate Finance Committee has voted to kill a public insurance plan amendment sponsored by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.,that would compete with private insurers. The 15-to-8 vote after a half-day of animated debate, bodes badly for the public option’s chances when the whole Senate debates it. Not surprisingly all Republicans on the panel voted against Rockefeller’s amendment, but in addition five Dems also did, including Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., along with Sens. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., Kent Conrad, D-N.D., Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., and Thomas Carper, D-Del. Republicans saw the amendment as an attempt to expand the federal government’s reach and eliminate private insurers. Aides to Senate majority leader, Senator Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, say that he will not include a provision for the public option when he combines the measures coming out of the finance and health committees. Members of the Senate Finance Committee will now debate an alternative plan put on the table by Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. His public insurance plan proposal modifies Rockefeller’s by mandating that the government negotiate rates with health care providers, like a private insurer does, instead of simply mandating them.
