And CNN’s Rick Sanchez chose Beck as today’s poster child for the “List U Don’t Want 2 Be On,” calling the self-described rodeo clown’s mocking of Malia, “cringe-worthy” and “out of bounds.” Read more

Outrage Over Deadly Israeli Raid on Gaza Aid Flotilla, Leaving 10 Dead, 30 Wounded

May 31, 2010

(ChattahBox)—-The Jewish State of Israel is now the subject of across-the-board international condemnation for a deadly early morning raid on aid ships bound for Gaza. An international humanitarian aid flotilla carrying relief supplies to the choked-off Palestinian territory, with the stated aim of breaking Israel’s blockade, was raided by Israeli commandos early this morning in international waters. What happened next is in dispute. But what is known, is that Israeli commandos opened fire on civilians aboard the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara, operated by the Muslim group Humanitarian Relief Foundation, or IHH, leaving at least 10 dead and 30 wounded.

The Israeli government says the IHH activists violently attacked the commandos with knives, axes, clubs and live fire, as the commandos dropped from helicopters to the ship. But the Free Gaza Movement, a co-sponsor of the aid flotilla, claims Israeli Defense Forces “began to shoot the moment their feet hit the deck,” shooting “into the crowd of civilians asleep.” Read more

Two Tales of Embellishing Military Service: One of These Things is Not Like the Other

May 30, 2010

(ChattahBox)—Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut attorney general and Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate was hit hard these past two-weeks with constant negative media coverage, after a NY Times hit piece alleging he purposefully embellished his military record for political gain. He apologized, acknowledging that on a couple of occasions he incorrectly described his service, as serving “in” Vietnam, instead of “during,” but his official biography was accurate. And there was no sense that Blumenthal, was guilty of nothing more than misspeaking. Much ado about nothing. Blumenthal holds a commanding lead in the race and his Connecticut constituents have moved on. But now we have the case of Republican Rep. Mark Kirk, running for President Obama’s former Senate seat in Illinois. And Kirk lends a whole new meaning to embellishing one’s military record. What did he do? Well, for starters he falsely claimed that he was personally honored with a prestigious Naval award. And this wasn’t just careless misspeaking. Kirk included the fake award in his official biography and bragged about it during a televised House meeting. Will the media become outraged, as it did with the Blumenthal story, devoting over a week of constant coverage to his misstatements, while calling for his head? It doesn’t look like it. Read more

BP’s ‘Top-Kill’ Fails Big Time: Now What?

May 30, 2010

(ChattahBox)—Like a runaway train, the BP oil disaster continues to destroy the Gulf at warp speed, with no end in sight, until the relief wells are completed in August. On Saturday, BP declared the top kill procedure a failure. BP’s CEO Tony Hayward is “disappointed” and President Obama, called the failure to plug the hushing oil well “heartbreaking.” Now what? The Obama administration ordered BP to have another go at a “top hat” or containment dome. But this time, a riser pipe will be cut before the collection of oil is attempted. Will this new effort plug the underwater hole, gushing millions of gallons of oil and gas into the sensitive ecosystems of the Gulf? Who knows. It’s all a crap shoot at this point, because BP for years, devoted all of its resources, expertise and robot-technology to extracting the oil from the earth, and damn the consequences. Read more
