Researcher Claims to Have Cracked Plato Musical Code

June 30, 2010

UK (ChattahBox) – Researchers an the University of Manchester claim to have cracked the code hidden within Plato’s writings, which follow a traditional musical pattern.

According to Dr Jay Kennedy, Plato used a plethora of symbols used by the followers of Pythagoras of Samos, a Ionian philosopher and religious leader, who founded Pythagoreanism.

Many of Plato’s ideals, such as his Republic, are believed to have been influenced by this religious following, as well as the reliance on numbers and mathematics as an explanation of the universe.

If this is true, then Plato’s theories would have preceded the theories proven by Sir Isaac Newton, Galileo, and other important scientific minds through history, by more than 2,000 years.

The alleged code followed by the 12 musical notes in the Greek scale, which Kennedy matched using a computerized version of Plato’s writings, with no punctuation or spaces.

He found that many symbols and phrases were repeated, creating patterns that spaced out perfectly along the 12 note scale.

Kennedy says the use of this code made perfect sense, as philosophers were often killed for their ideas at that time. Plato’s teacher, Socrates, was one of those who were killed for heresy.

“Secrecy was normal in ancient times, especially for esoteric and religious knowledge but for Plato it was a matter of life and death. Encoding his ideas in secret patterns was the only way to be safe,” Kennedy told the Telegraph.

The study’s findings have been published in American literary journal Apeiron.

Apple’s Verizon Deal Causes Major Drop in BlackBerry Prospects

June 30, 2010

(ChattahBox) – With the announcement that Apple is planning on releasing a phone compatible with the Verizon network, the projected sales of the BlackBerry dropped sharply, with future sales sure to be badly hurt by the new deal.

Research In Motion Ltd was likely upset when they learned that Bloomberg News had spoken to some anonymous sources that said that Apple and Verizon were looking to do business as soon as January.

Already, the BlackBerry has suffered under the release of Apple products, such as the iPad, and the iPhone 4. But this is devastating news to a company that has only expanded outside of the U.S. in the last few years.

RIM dropped $3.22 (61%), taking it to $49.75 after the report by the business source was published.

Because the BlackBerry is distributed with a deal with Verizon, it is obvious that the relationship the company has with the U.S.’s largest cellular provider is sure to sour.

Analyst Charles Wolf spoke to the New Delhi Chronicles, saying, ““It looks to me that about 10 percent of RIM’s sales are at risk from a Verizon iPhone.”

Ouch.

China Looks for Love for Their Soldiers After Social Networking Ban

June 30, 2010

China (ChattahBox) – China implemented a ban on all soldiers on June 15, which prohibits them from posting on job sites, dating sites, social networking sites, and anything else that might be ‘taken advantage of’ by people looking for information on the army.

The worry is that people “with ulterior motives may make use of the soldiers’ personal information and pose a threat to the safety of the army,” Yang Jigui, of the Xigaze military in Tibet, was quoted by CNN.

As a consequence, officials in the People’s Liberation Army are concerned about finding potential mates for their soldiers, and so have taken it on themselves to do it for them.

They are seeking assistance from the women’s federation, and various community groups.,

A soldier in China’s military will spend most of the year isolated from the rest of the world, having few opportunities to get out and meet people, especially women.
