Obama: End ‘Unwarranted’ Tax Giveaways to Big Oil

April 30, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)—President Obama devoted his weekly address to calling for an end to billions in taxpayer subsidies to Big Oil. The oil companies are raking in obscene profits, while Americans struggle to pay for gas and put food on the table. And Republican lawmakers are further putting the squeeze on ordinary Americans, by balancing the budget on the backs of the poor and middle class, while handing out tax cuts to the rich. Obama says its time to put an end to this insanity, saying “When oil companies are making huge profits and you’re struggling at the pump, and we’re scouring the federal budget for spending we can afford to do without, these tax giveaways aren’t right. They aren’t smart. And we need to end them.” Read more

GOP Congressman Worth as High as $56 Million Whines He’s ‘Cash Poor’

April 30, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)—Republican lawmakers have no idea how the majority of Americans live. Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-MT), worth about $56 million, recently whined to his constituents that he is struggling to make ends meet, because he’s “cash poor.” The median household income in Montana is just $41,587, placing it in the bottom 10 poorest states. Rehberg now joins freshman Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI), as one of the most tone deaf lawmakers in Congress. Duffy recently complained to his constituents about his struggles surviving on his $174,000 salary and driving a “used minivan.” Read more

Bachmann’s Energy Policy: ‘Hamsters Running on a Cage’

April 30, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)—Far right-wing Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) joined a group of potential GOP rivals in New Hampshire Friday, to make her case to Republican primary tea party voters. The “Presidential Summit on Spending & Job Creation” was organized by Americans for Prosperity, a libertarian group founded and partly funded by oil billionaire David Koch. The event was sponsored by the American Petroleum Institute. Bachmann and the rest of the weak GOP field, predictably pandered to their Big Oil benefactors, with “drill, baby drill” nonsense, more corporate tax cuts, and the repeal of federal regulations, so Koch industries can pollute our air and water unfettered, while raking in more obscene profits. But Bachmann, a birther, who has attacked President Obama as “anti-American,” for running a “gangster government,” provided some of the best wingnuttery of the evening, calling for the privatization of polio vaccines and the harvesting of every conceivable energy source, including “Hamsters running on a cage.” Read more

Okla. GOPer Blames Media for Remarks That Blacks are Lazy Good-for-Nothings

April 29, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)—Oklahoma state Rep. Sally Kern (R), a crank right-wing extremist known for her vicious anti-gay hate, once comparing homosexuality to “toe cancer,” is now setting her sights on the lazy blacks. During a floor speech, in which she was voicing her support for the repeal of state Affirmative Action protections, she went on a tirade against black people who don’t work as hard as whites, because they expect the government to take care of them. Kern also chided women for expecting equal pay, because “women usually don’t want to work as hard as a man.” After her racist remarks received national media coverage, Kern issued an apology, blaming the media for taking her ‘”words or sentences’ out of the total context of a speech…” However, her prejudices and disdain for African-Americans couldn’t have been clearer.  Despite calls for her resignation from Democratic lawmakers and the NAACP, Republican leadership is standing firmly behind Kern. The same leadership that just passed a birther bill. Racism, bigotry, discrimination, rank ignorance; just another ordinary day for Sally Kern and the Oklahoma GOP. Read more

Letterman Demands Trump Apologize for ‘Racism’

April 29, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)—If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, it must be a duck. Despite denials from Donald Trump that he really didn’t mean to lob racist volleys at our first black president, it doesn’t change the facts. Except for the Fox News crowd, a number of high profile media personalities and journalists have recognized the blatant racism behind Trump’s birtherism and dog-whistle implications that Obama only got into Harvard because he’s black, including CBS’ Bob Schieffer. David Letterman, host of The Late Show followed suit last night, by slamming Trump for his offensive attacks on our President that “smack of racism.” And he warned The Donald that he had better apologize, if he ever expects to return to The Late Show as a guest. The ‘Trump Doctrine’ Revealed: ‘Listen You Mother F***ers’

April 29, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)—Sounding like a cross between Tony Soprano and a third-rate Las Vegas warm up act at a strip club, Donald Trump dropped a bunch of F-bombs, during a speech before an adoring crowd of Republicans last night. Appearing at the Treasure Island casino in Las Vegas, Trump vilified American politicians, as “blood-suckers” and slammed the Obama administration, as “weak, pathetic and incompetent.” Elected officials were called “stupid people,” unlike the “genius” Trump. The most hilarious, cringe-inducing moments of his 40-minute speech came when he introduced his blueprint for handling trade and foreign policy issues, that he dubbed the “Trump Doctrine” What is the Trump Doctrine exactly? It’s very simple. Just tell the Chinese and OPEC to go fuck themselves. Read more

Trump Assumes Black Reporter is ‘Big Obama Fan’

April 28, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)–Is reality TV star Donald Trump so totally devoid of self awareness that he has no clue how vulgar and racist he sounds, every time he opens his mouth? Apparently, that’s the case. Minutes after spewing race-baiting attacks on President Obama’s educational background, Trump responded to a question from an African-American journalist by pointing out that he must be a supporter of President Obama. CBS’ Bob Schieffer Speaks the Truth: Trump Peddles ‘Racism’ (Video)

April 28, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)–It’s not often we hear the plain truth from our mainstream journalists in this age of “balanced” media, in which each side of an issue is given equal weight. But some issues, such as blatant racism, bigotry and hate can’t be given equal credence. There is no “other side.” But mealy-mouthed politicians and cable news channels chasing ratings, don’t make those distinctions. Not so with CBS’ Bob Schieffer. He called Donald Trump’s vile attacks on President Obama’s educational background, for what it is: ugly racism. Read more

GDP Growth Slows to Crawl, But Austerity Cuts Still All the Rage

April 28, 2011

(ChattahBox Business News)— The U.S. Department of Commerce released its first quarter report on our nation’s Gross Domestic Product growth, and it doesn’t look good. Our economy only managed a meager 1.8 percent increase in GDP growth. This is a significant decline, compared to the encouraging 3.1 percent GDP growth in the fourth quarter of last year. Economists blame the decrease on draconian budget cuts, higher prices for food and gas, combined with higher imports and slowed construction. Many of these factors are expected to improve, but Republican Congressional lawmakers, on a deficit reduction binge, plan to continue starving our sluggish economy. Read more

Right-Wing Reacts to Obama’s Birth Certificate With Racist Paranoia

April 27, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)—Soon after President Obama released his long-form birth certificate this morning, the lunatic right-wing that has taken over the Republican Party, responded with expected nutty paranoia, and even advanced new racist conspiracy theories. No matter what, right-wing birthers who refuse to accept that fact that a black man named Barack Hussein Obama is our President, will continue to doubt his legitimacy as long as they breathe. Establishment Republican leaders, such as House  Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), who have shamelessly encouraged the birthers, attacked Obama for responding to the debunked conspiracy theory. Fox News questioned the birth certificate’s authenticity. The nutty birthers also suggested the long-form birth certificate is fake, or that Obama is still not a natural born citizen, because his father was Kenyan. Birther queen Orly Taitz’s response took a darker, uglier turn. She says the birth document is suspect, because it lists the race of Obama’s father as “African” instead of “Negro.” Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips waded into the racist sewer with Taitz. Phillips issued a statement demanding that President Obama release his college records to prove he didn’t benefit from a scholarship “reserved for foreign students.” Stay classy Republicans.
