GM To Stop Sales Of Saturn And Pontiac Brands

February 19, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – General Motors has announced that they will be shutting down Saturn dealerships, and that no other Saturn brands will be manufactured after 2011.

They are also planning to begin phasing out the Pontiac, another brand of car that has never provided the sales that the company has always needed.

Both are moves meant to save the company in the current economic crisis, and the plan will be places before Congress and President Obama this week.

They hope that it will be the first move in their own recovery plan that can boost sales as they begin to put an emphasis on selling off Hummer, which they hope to sell to a new company within the next month, although Hummer may also be shut down if a buyer is not quickly found.

What is with all these reports that Pontiac is being phased out?? When did GM say that? If these people watched the actual GM press conference or stories from reputable sources, Saturn Hummer and Saab ARE being either phased out or sold and Pontiac is NOT being phased out but rather taken from a stand alone brand to a niche brand sold through the Buick GMC Pontiac distro brand (which is where they are already sold). So basically the biggest difference we will see is that Pontiac will have fewer models (and marketing may change). Will they be phased out down the road? Maybe. But it has not been confirmed yet. Who knows, maybe when the econmy gets better, they may build Pontiac again. The media should stop printing what “they think” as fact!
