Playboy Enterprises Posts Collectible Back Issues Online for Free

March 22, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Playboy Enterprises has put 53 back issues of Playboy on the Web, through a partnership between Microsoft and Bondi Digital Publishing.  The site went live late Thursday, and was announced at Microsoft’s Mix09 show in Las Vegas.  The articles and images are free to access at PlayboyArchive.com, after you install a free copy of Microsoft’s Silverlight viewer.

Surprisingly there appears to be no age verification required, to get into the sight and view selective issues that span from 1954 through 2007, many of which are highly sought-after collectors’ items. Each digital issue in the web archive will appear exactly as it did – including advertisements – in the original print edition of Playboy. Bondi Digital Publishing – the software pioneers that developed the platform for The Complete New Yorker – scanned and re-typed each issue of Playboy, the company said in a statement. The Web component was developed with Microsoft’s Partner of the Year, Vertigo.
