Google In Talks To Acquire Twitter?

April 3, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Google is in late stage negotiations to acquire Twitter according to TechCrunch sources. The offer is not known but Twitter turned down a half a billion dollars from Facebook just a few months ago (partially including overvalued Facebook stock though). The story speculates Google would covet Twitter for it’s real time database and search engine. On Thursday, Twitter unveiled a new search engine, allowing a user to see search results directly on their homepage. The engine now makes it possible for users to search for keywords and phrases used by people they follow on the site, and the ability to “save” search results.
The search engine could pose a threat to Google’s dominance in traditional web search and is appealing due to the potential for a real-time search, where a user could get a sense of what is being said about a particular topic instantly.
