Opinion On AOL’s Pick Of Tim Armstrong For CEO

May 25, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – In a desperate attempt to save itself, AOL has hired on former Google CEO Tim Armstrong to give the company a new boost of vitality.

AOL, once the head of the pack in Internet service, has since become a butt of a joke, and a rather outdated one at that. While they used to dominate the Internet industry with their dial up service, they have fallen behind as faster connections for lower prices have become easily accessible.

While they used to have customers in the tens of billions, they now have only a few within the tens of millions, and their once thriving profit margin has been slipping further by the month.

It is obvious that their dial up won’t cut it anymore, and their advertising is only bringing in so much, so what do they do? They bring in some new blood.

Tim Armstrong is well known for his open, inviting management style, and his quirky tactics. The former Google executive also has his qualifications, having run the single largest conglomerate on the web.

Already, he has come into AOL like a hurricane, actually physically ripping the doors that once separated the CEO’s from the regular staff, in a symbolic move that shows that changes have been made, and employees come first.

But however great Armstrong will be for boosting the moods of the staff, what really counts are his ideas. And he will have to come up with some pretty good ones if he wants to save AOL, which has been circling the drain for years.
