Pizza Hut changing it’s name to what?

June 19, 2009

(ChattahBox) — It’s not always easy to have a highly recognized business name and once achieved changing it should be done with caution.  Recently SCI FI Channel decided to change it’s name to Syfy, which left a lot of people shaking their heads.  In another head shaking surprising name change Pizza Hut has reportedly decided to go with a new moniker, “The Hut.”

Recent additions to the menu like pasta, as well as new in-store features like flat screen televisions broadcasting CBS programs such as “Wheel of Fortune” and “Entertainment Tonight,” that are being rolled out now, reflect the company’s move to put new life into it’s brand and offset stagnant sales, according to MediaWeek. Pizza Hut’s parent company Yum Brands has done this before, successfully rebranding it’s restautant chain,  Kentucky Fried Chicken as KFC in 1991. Recently, to highlight the company’s healthier grilled chicken offerings, the company has referred to the KFC brand as KGC (Grilled). The international franchise based in Addison, Texas has more than 10,000 Pizza Huts worldwide.

It should be noted that I told Dish to take Syfy off my subscription when they made the name change. I think it represented the abandonment by Syfy of their science-fiction viewer base.
