New Recall Ahead for Toyota Corollas?
February 17, 2010
(ChattahBox)— Toyota’s troubles are not over. The beleaguered Japanese automaker is now considering another recall. This time it’s for the company’s best seller Corolla, which has some problems in the power steering. The company just issued massive safety related recalls for dangerous accelerator problems and faulty brake systems in its Prius model and other hybrids.
Toyota acknowledged that it received nearly 100 complaints regarding the power steering in Corolla’s subcompact model.
Executive vice president Shinichi SasakiSasaki, said that Toyota is “ready to respond” and waiting on information from the NHTSA regarding the Corolla. He said the automaker is aware of “under 100″ complaints and is investigating the complaints to narrow down the cause.
Since Toyota’s mishandling of the safety issues plaguing its vehicles, sales have dropped 16 percent since the third week of January. Toyota plans plans to temporarily suspend manufacturing operations at two U.S. plants, until excess inventory is moved off dealer’s lots.
Toyota’s North American chief Yoshimi Inaba, will appear before Congress on Feb. 24, to answer questions about its handling of the lethal sticky gas pedals in its vehicles which have been attributed to fatalities.
