Frozen Dog Causes Outrage

December 7, 2008

Wisconsin (ChattahBox) – In a case that has caused widespread shock and disgust, a 59 year old woman has bee arrested for throwing her severely overweight dog into 6 degree weather, causing it to become frozen to the sidewalk.

11-Year Old Jiffy, an obese border collie is 50 lbs overweight, and cannot lift himself off of the ground, making him unable to walk. He crawls and slides himself across the ground to get around, the first sign of serious mistreatment from his owner, and a frequent cause of alarm from neighborhood families. But when the woman forced Jiffy into near freezing temperatures, he became stuck to the pavement for over 12 hours, causing a distressed neighbor to call the police.

“It is very disturbing to see a dog that overweight and then to actually come up and see the dog frozen to the sidewalk. It was very, very traumatic for me,” Human Society worker Carey Payne, one of the people sent to deal with the issue. “I’ve never seen a dog actually frozen to a sidewalk before.”

The woman was released from custody shortly after her arrest, and it is now in the hands of the district attorney, who will decide if she will be charged. I, for one, feel that she absolutely should be, and I know I am not alone.

Make part of her sentence to NEVER EVER be allowed to have another pet!
What a disgusting human being to treat an animal that never gives anything less than unequivocal love this way!!
Someone please….find that dog a decent and loving home! This “person” obviously doesn’t deserve him!

That dog is a lazy slob! Put it down!

Excuse me Cleo2u, you say: “What a disgusting human being to treat an animal that never gives anything less than unequivocal love this way!!”

In saying “an animal that never gives anything less than unequivocal love” – referring to the canine family – you probably would also agree a grizzly bear would kiss you on the cheek, or a rattlesnake would play the tambourine. And not one single dog out there has anything else other than unequivocal love? What do you call it when a lovable family pet savages a neighbor, ripping off half their face, or mauling a defenseless toddler? You call that love?

I’m sorry to inform you that dogs don’t all come out of the same mold. They do have uneven temperaments just like you and me and most other beings out there. Don’t paint all dogs as these wonderful lovable creatures that bring joy and happiness to all. They do not! The also bring “bark bark bark” all night long; doggy poos all over the lawn, the footpath – and any other sneaky place they know you might step in it. Apart from sleepless nights with these howling screaming barking noisy animals and the constant attention and care and cost involved dogs carry disease! They eat other animal’s as well as their own excrement infested with all kinds of harmful bacteria and then they slobber it all over your face. Dogs are disgusting dirty animals – generally reflecting their owner’s habits

Wow, Disgruntled, has this become a rip on dogs?
Because from the looks of it, it seems like your ripping on the matter of dogs rather than the story.
Oh, and if you think dogs are that disgusting, than maybe you need to look at humans in general. We’re not a squeaky clean species. Despite what you have said, did you know it is a proven scientific fact that the human mouth contains more germs than the mouth of a dog?
And sure, some dogs can be bad, but generally, If a dog is treated with love and respect, and the owner takes neccesary precautions, they rarely cause problems. It’s when an owner abuses an animal that ruins the animal.
And by the way, If you don’t like dogs at all, why did you even bother reading this story? Go vent somewhere else.

Wow, Disgruntled, you really are disgruntled. I am curious about what country you live in. It sounds like you have may never have had babies, who may not always be wonderful lovable creatures that bring joy happiness to all. They cry and wail in stores and public places, drool and vomit all over the house, sit and roll around in their own excrement, play with their feces (sometimes eat it) and need constant attention and care, not to mention cost. Apart from sleepless nights with these howling screaming noisy creatures, children are probably the biggest carrier of bacteria and disease, spreading more sickness through day care and school children bringing home every illness that arrives in their school to their loving families at home.

I think I am more shocked by this comment than the original horrifying story.

Not to sound insensitive, because the dog is a living creature and should be treated with respect and not caused distress etc.

That being said, anyone who keeps a dog in the house is no better than a filthy animal themselves. petting them is supposed to lower blood presure and all… but really to put up with animal waste on the carpet an matted hair is disgusting.

I agree with Josh that ” to put up with animal waste on the carpet an matted hair is disgusting.” That is why those of us who love our pets take good care of them and train them. I have always had dogs in the house. I don’t have poop anywhere. And no matted hair because my dogs are well cared for. Sadly that is not true for all dog owners. Sometimes owners have financial and mental problems that contribute to improper pet care. However they still love their pets and need them in their lives. That is why many of us who help with dog rescues spend a great deal of our time trying to help owners get the resources and education to care for their pets properly. I hope that the owner of this dog gets help if that is what she needs. Otherwise the judge needs to ensure that she never has another pet.
