Toddler Makes Fast Friends With Unexpected Companion

December 7, 2008

Florida (ChattahBox) – Unusual friendships are always heartwarming to see, but none so much as that between two year old Emily Bland, and Rishi, a one year old orangutan at The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species.

The two met when Emily’s photographer father, Barry Bland, decided to bring her along to a shoot, thinking that she would enjoy the chance to see the various animals at the institute.

“Almost as soon as we arrived, Rishi had an instant chemistry with Emily. They looked completely content with each other,” Bland explained.

While her father was surprised, the scientists present at the time were not. According to Dr. Bhagavan Antle, Rishi is the youngest of his family, and this behavior is quite natural.

“Orangutans are intelligent and certainly the most friendly apes on the planet.”

As an infant is always looking for someone to play with, and the difference in species didn’t seem to matter to either him, nor to Emily.

It is clear that these two will be friends for as long time.
