PETA Campaigns for High School to Change Name to ‘Sea Kitten’

January 10, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has launched a new campaign to have the name ‘Spearfish High School’ to ”Sea Kitten High School’.

According to the activist group, the measure is hoped to give a personality and sense of compassion to fish, which they feel the name ‘Spearfish’ lacks.

The letter, which was sent to Steve Morford, the school’s principle, said it was meant to “reflect the gentle nature of its current marine namesake”.

“We want people to realize that more fish are killed each year than all animals combined,” Pulin Modi, a spokesman for PETA, explained. “They don’t have the sympathy of more popular animals like cats and dogs.”

But Morford isn’t too concerned about the name, and has no plans on changing it.

“Obviously, it’s nothing we’re taking seriously,” he replied.
