Cow Survives Lightening Strike

February 5, 2009

UK (ChattahBox) – A cow that was struck by lightening has survived, in a story that has shocked people all over the United Kingdom.

The cow was hit directly as it stood in a field, grazing during an electrical storm. The bolt took a good sized chunk of skin from the animal’s side, and caused some ankle and leg wounds, but otherwise left it standing, and unharmed.

“The electricity from a lightning strike would enter the front set of legs and exit out the back legs so, based on the picture, it is possible it happened,” explained Professor Jon Nott of James Cook University.
“While I can’t explain the knee wounds, the ankle wounds would be consistent with those of lightning.”
