Giant Rat Found In Chinese Marketplace

February 19, 2009

China (ChattahBox) – A giant rat, weight over six pounds, with teeth reaching down an inch long, has been captured in a marketplace in Fujian.

Mr. Xian, the man who is reported to have caught it, said that he had watched a crowd surrounding the creature in the middle of the marketplace, and went to see what they were looking at. The enormous rat was in the center of the circle, but no one was eager to get near it.

Thinking it might be a rare species of rodent, Mr. Xian gathered his courage, and leap at it, capturing it by the tail before he was able to hold it by the scruff of the neck.

“I did it, I caught a rat the size of a cat!” he was reported to have yelled at the crowd, before a snapshot of the triumphant hunter was taken.

While no one is quite sure what the rat is, local agencies say it looks to be some kind of bamboo rat, likely Sumatra, which can grow up to ten times larger then the common Chinese bamboo rat.

Mr Xian still has the animal.
