Boy Claims Healing Powers After Lightning Strike
March 3, 2009
Mohammad Ponari was playing outside in the rain when he was struck by a lightning bolt. The extraordinary experience left him miraculously unharmed, but he says it did leave him with a gift: the gift of healing.
Using a stone that had landed on him in the strike, he claims that he is able to heal the sick, lame, and hurting, all by placing the stone into water, which is then drunk by the ailing. He has already claimed to have healed a boy with a fever, a local village elder with a sprain, and tens of thousands of others who have come from as far as Malaysia to receive his touch.
The sudden rush of people has resulted in the deaths of at least three, and the injuries of dozens of others, as locals have tried to trample over one another to reach Mohammad. It became so dangerous that the boy had to be removed to a secret location.
He is now said to be sick himself, with a fever, nausea, and exhaustion, which he claims is the work of spirits who are angry that cash had been taken for his healing (a donation box outside of his home had collected 1 billion rupia).
