13-year-old boy accused of robbing Illinois bank

April 15, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Despite some religious customs, most of us think of a  13-year-old as barely a teenager.  But in today’s crazy world boy’s are committing crimes that have authorities considering trying them as adults.  That is the case of an unnamed 13-year-old boy who robbed a bank in Peoria, IL and was caught ‘red handed’.

Within 30 minutes, the boy was found in a garage behind a house a block away from the bank and arrested. His clothes were dyed red from a dye pack placed in a bag of money taken from the bank.

According to court records, the boy was convicted last year of misdemeanor domestic battery and appeared to be on probation at the time of the bank robbery.  The boy was charged with felony armed robbery in juvenile court, accused of threatening a teller with a gun and demanding cash.

Prosecutors are considering whether to seek to have him tried as an adult and face up to 30 years in prison.

Sometimes kids have been damaged so badly in infancy that they have the capacity to commit terrible crimes even as children. We need to look at the possibility of sociopathy in the kids who commit crimes and protect society accordingly. Just because they are young does not mean they cannot inflict real harm, and the protection of the innocent needs to always be our priority. In my home state, a 14 yr old boy drowned a 2 yr old girl just for kicks. When he was caught, the police were well aware of who he was, he’d been in trouble constantly. These kids often harm pets and then younger children first. After the age of about 5, there is really nothing that can be done for sociopaths. You just have to protect others from them.
