I think it’s horrifying that the airline allowed this pilot to fly after he failed ANY simulations, adding insult to injury, with another inexperienced copilot. To think that these people all lost their lives because of inexperience and unprofessionalism, it’s beyond the pale that this was allowed to happen. Should we all be concerned when we fly any regional carrier? Is this an industry practice? There should be steep government fines imposed in addition to the inevitable lawsuits.

The problem is, there are hundreds like him flying every day.

This story is completely false. There is nothing resembling “hitting on” the first officer anywhere in the transcript of the communications between her and the captain.

This article should be removed. The pilot and copilot were engaged in conversation in violation of sterlile cockpit procedures (in essence, no conversation not directly related to the operation of the aircraft permitted below 10,000 feet), and his handling of the aircraft was found to be a major cause of the crash.

However, there was no hint of “flirty and sexual topics”. The transcript has been released in full at the NTSB website (http://www.ntsb.gov/publictn/2010/AAR1001.pdf). The last thing his family would need would be BS like that printed above.
