USA Takes Top Prize in 2009 World Beard and Moustache Championships

May 26, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Hundreds of men from around the world, and a couple of women, were in Anchorage, Alaska this past weekend, for the biennial, 2009 ‘World Beard and Moustache Championships.‘  For the first time in history, Germany who has never lost in full beard freestyle, failed to take home the majority of the trophies awarded, as the United States enjoyed the home field advantage in Anchorage, Alaska, and established itself as the new leading power in international bearding. Hometown favorite and Beard Team USA member David Traver was crowned overall champ, having styled his beard to resemble an Alaska snow shoe earning him top honors in the freestle full beard category. The prize beard measures over 20 inches long and was cultivated over a period of two-and-a-half years, before being plaited into the shape of a snowshoe. while Germany’s Karl-Heinz Hille’s elaborate moustache earned him second and San Francisco’s Jack Passion placed third. Keith Haubrich won first place in the ‘freestyle moustache’ round for an asymmetrical creation of spikes and loops. All of the winners received engraved Alaska gold pans as trophies. The event moves to Norway in 2011, and I for one would like to see some TV coverage!
