Drug Traffickers Caught Moving Cocaine Through Frozen Sharks

June 17, 2009

Mexico (ChattahBox) – Mexican officials have said that drug cartels are upping the ante in their distribution, after finding more than a ton of cocaine stuffed inside a shipment of frozen shark carcasses.

It is only one of the many odd objects that are being used to smuggle large amount of drugs, as the number of people used as mules decreases, with cartels opting to move more cocaine at one time.

“Those in charge of the shipment said it was a conserving agent but after checks we confirmed it was cocaine,” Eduardo Villa, a Mexican Navy Commander, told the BBC.

It is a part of an ever growing problem that has already overtaken the country, but it isn’t just about cocaine. Huge amounts of methamphetamine have been creeping up in labs all over Mexico, with the largest bust so far occurring earlier this week.

Marijuana distribution is also a huge problem, with violent cartels holding the major rights to the widely used plant, something that many marijuana legalization advocates hope will pass if the plant is regulated.

Thousands die in Mexico every year due to drug related violence.
