Antiques Roadshow Makes First $1 Million Appraisal
June 30, 2009
(ChattahBox)—The Boston-based program “Antiques Roadshow” just recently reached a new record high appraisal with a stunning $1.07 million appraisal on four pieces of Chinese jade and celadon, dating from the Qianlong era during the period of 1736 to 1795.
The owner of the valuable jade pieces recently took them to a traveling appraisal event in Raleigh, North Carolina. She thought they may be worth something, but had no idea the items would turn her into a millionaire. The owner of the jade inherited them from her father, who purchased them during the 1930s and 1940s in China.
One of the most valuable items in the collection is a carved jade bowl that was made for a Chinese Emperor.
The Antiques Roadshow appraiser knew right away he was holding something of great value, when he saw the mark on the bottom of the bowl, indicating it was made “by Imperial order.”
The popular show had been hoping for the past 13 years to score a million dollar appraisal from the assorted junk people find from their garages and attics, hoping to strike it rich.
The record-setting appraisal is scheduled to air on January 4.
