Wanted: Stoner Who Has a Way With Words for Newspaper Pot Critic

October 2, 2009

(ChattahBox)—The surge in marijuana dispensaries in Colorado has inspired a local newspaper to hire a “pot critic,” to help residents find the best bang for their buck so to speak. The alternative weekly newspaper, Denver Westword recently published a help wanted ad looking for a stoner who has “…a way with words” to write for a new weekly column named, “Mile Highs and Lows.”

The paper would prefer to hire a critic who has personal experience with marijuana, but not necessarily someone who is too baked to write. The ad reads: “Calling all potential pot reviewers: Westword wants you!”

The ad then continues: “Do you have a medical condition that necessitates marijuana? Do you have a way with words?”

Since January, at least 70 new medical marijuana dispensaries have opened for business in the Rocky Mountain state and the Denver Westword wants to carve out a niche for itself, as the first paper providing its readers with helpful tips on navigating the Colorado legal pot scene.

The ad describes the the pot critic position, as providing “an objective resource on the state’s burgeoning medical marijuana scene.”

With an increase in states decriminalizing marijuana for medical use, the Denver Westword’s new pot critic could be the start of a new trend in journalism.

The Westword’s editor, Patricia Calhoun is asking potential candidates to submit an essay on the subject of what marijuana means to them and plans to fill the position sometime next week.

The help wanted ad cautions applicants not to submit their resumes or the essay on rolling papers, just in case the idea crossed a creative pot critic’s mind.
