Man Pleads Guilty To 2001 Robbery Charge After Leech Gives Him Away

October 19, 2009

Tasmania (ChattahBox) – A man has plead guilty to armed robbery after a leech found at the crime scene back in 2001 matched to the DNA taken in his most recent arrest.

He and another man are accused of robbing a 71-year-old woman in 2001, stealing $500 and assaulting her, though the details of that alleged assault have not been released.

A leech was found at the scene, containing human blood that it had consumed at some point before or during the robbery.

The blood matched a DNA sample taken almost 9 years later, which has led to his arrest today.

It just goes to show you: in today’s world, there is no such thing as an actual cold case.
