Dog Soldier Found After Year Missing In Afghanistan
November 12, 2009
Afghanistan (ChattahBox) – A dog who had gone missing after a rush of insurgents wounded her handler and eight others in Afghanistan has been found after a year MIA.
Sabi was a bomb sniffing dog that belonged to a group of Australian soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
After a group of insurgents attacked a convoy of Australian, American, and Afghan troops during a recon mission, she disappeared, and had been feared dead.
But, one year later, and American soldier found her during a patrol.
“I took the dog and gave it some commands it understood,” the soldier, who has been identified only as ‘John’, explained.
He knew immediately it was Sabi, as he had heard about the loss of the Australian’s black lab before.
She was reportedly healthy and happy, and has been flown to an Australian base. If she is cleared from any possible disease exposure, she will be going home.
Sabi has served two tours of duty in Afghanistan.
