Latvia Auctions Off Ghost Town

February 5, 2010

Latvia (ChattahBox) – An abandoned military town that was used during the Soviet-era as a radar station has been sold off by the government in an auction.

The tiny town, formerly known as Skrunda-1,  was sold to a Russian investor for unspecified purposes for $3.1 million.

Once home to about 5,000 people, it has been empty for a decade.

The schools, buildings and old shops are falling apart, most dilapidated and beyond repair.
