Boy With Rare Condition Develops ‘Fish Scales’

March 1, 2010

China (ChattahBox) – A toddler with a rare genetic condition that caused him to be born without pores later developed fish scales.

Song Sheng, a young child in Eastern China, was born with Lamellar ichthyosis, a condition that keeps the body from regulating its’ temperature due to its’ lack of skin pores.

Because he cannot sweat, and heat is trapped inside of his body at all times, his skin develops into scales, similar to a fish, and peels away in large quantities.

The family is forced to regularly put the Song into tubs of ice to cool him manually.

“He is in a lot of pain all the time and if we don’t have enough ice he gets a fever,” his father explained of the tragic case.

“It can be treated but not cured so we are praying for a miracle or a folk medicine cure.”

A small foundation has been established to pay for Song’s care, which can be found here.
