Comedian Punched Small Pregnant Woman In Face, Court Hears
March 10, 2010
Charged under the name Royston Vasey, Brown is accused of punching a small woman, newly pregnant, when he nearly hit her grandmother’s parked car.
According to the complain, Brown was backing up when he miscalculated and almost his the parked car in a grocery store lot.
He allegedly saw the woman’s granddaughter; 21-year-old, 5 foot 3 inch, 105 lb. Kelly Oliver.
He is then said to have started shouting, “What the f*** are you looking at?”, to which she walked away.
He got out of his car and followed her.
”Miss Oliver describes the defendant appearing to be tense and aggressive and he shouted at her ‘You should have moved your f****** car’,” Prosecutor Viviene Turner said.
He is then alleged to have struck the young woman in the face.
The woman’s grandmother came and started shouting at him, to which he screamed back, then bolted from the scene when the woman threatened to report him.
He has plead not guilty, and claims that he acted the way he did after becoming “disturbed and alarmed” by the plaintiff calling him a “fat f***”.
Turner, who pointed out the style of humor he does in his stand-up show, which is often considered controversial, says she doesn’t buy it.
”Even if the magistrates do find unpleasantries were exchanged, would this, given the nature of Mr Vasey’s job and his stage act, cause him alarm and distress?” she asked.
This is one of several cases where Brown was accused of becoming violent.
In 1996 he was charged with common assault against his ex-wife.
In 2003 he was charged with assault against a fan who swore at him, to which he claimed he was “protecting women and children” nearby from hearing him.
Miss Oliver has also had two cautions in cases of violence in the past, as well as a dispersal notice in 2008 that she failed to comply with.
