Would-Be Robbers Tunnel Into French Bank
April 5, 2010
France (ChattahBox) – It was more like a Hollywood film than a bank heist when a group of robbers tunneled their way from a Paris subway station and straight into a bank, in an undeniably impressive bit of attempted theft.
The robbers made it into the bank by tunneling through what police believe was a sewer system under the BNP Paribas building, but didn’t manage to get into the safety deposit room.
Nothing was taken.
They did, however, set a fire in an attempt to cover their tracks as they escaped, which set off alarms and alerted police, sending them to the bank and finding it empty of the villains.
This is the third time this year a bank has been dug into, with similar occurrences last weekend and New Year’s at two other banks, both of which led to hundreds of personal safes being robbed.
Police do not know if the three robberies are connected.
