Cop Shoots Self, Blames Imaginary Black Man
May 15, 2010
Pennsylvania (ChattahBox) – An officer who reported that he had been shot by a black man when he intervened in an argument has admitted that he shot himself, and made the story up.
The bizarre incident has led many to wonder at his motives for the story, as the shooting seemed to have been deliberate, and meant to wound rather than kill.
Sgt. Robert Ralston, a 46-year-old vet on the force, shot himself in the shoulder and then told colleagues that he had been shot while intervening in a fight between two black males.
According to him, he had walked up to the arguing pair, and one turned and shot him.
He now says this was a lie, and that the wound was self-inflicted, but has not said what the purpose for it as.
Many believe it as a call for attention, or an attempt to get some kind of transfer.
The consequences of the action went beyond one crazy cop, however.
Philadelphia has long since struggled under the racial tensions of the region.
The fact that a white cop shot himself and then blames a black man for the non-existent crime, sending police on a manhunt for an imaginary suspect of color has already caused those tensions to increase as the question of whether or not his actions were motivated by racism arise.
