Man Guilty Of Killing 29 Pigs In Animal Cruelty Case
May 25, 2010
Minnesota (ChattahBox) – A 23-year-old man has been convicted of slashing 29 pigs while drunk after making his way into a barn.
Curtis Lee Adams was found in a barn belonging to the Wiechman Pig Company in early March, after someone called to report suspicious activity.
Police found him covered in blood, pig manure, and reeking of alcohol. His pickup truck had been driven up on some kind of farm equipment.
He admitted that he was drunk and had been at a bar, and was released to a sober driver and taken home.
The next morning, 29 pigs were found dead or dying, slashed up with a knife that was discovered in some nearby grass.
Adams was picked up, and admitted that the knife was his.
He claims not to remember slashing the pigs, or have any reason to have done so.
Those still living were put down by a veterinarian.
Adams was charged, and has now been convicted, of burglary, animal torture and cruelty, and driving under the influence.
He faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine for the burglary, and 90 days and $1000 for each pig stabbed.
He will be sentenced on June 28.
