Flight Attendant Quits, Storms Off Down Inflatable Slide
August 9, 2010
(Chattahbox) – There are dramatic way to quit, and then there’s this. When JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater had had enough of his 28-year job, he reportedly used the intercom to tell a passenger “f— you,” grabbed two beers from the galley, and slid down an inflatable emergency slide he’d activated.
His abrupt resignation was prompted by a fight with a passenger who refused to apologize for accidentally striking him in the head with luggage, but it sounds like he’d been considering quitting for a long time. The offending passenger apparently cursed out Slater when the flight attendant tried to make him apologize.
The plane was parked on the tarmac at JFK airport in New York when Mr. Slater slid down the slide. The officials delayed calling the police for 25 minutes after the slide was inflated, giving the flight attendant time to grab his luggage and drive to his residence in Flushing, Queens. Mr. Slater was arrested Monday evening and charged with reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
Honestly, I hope he gets off with a bit of community service. No one was hurt (except his head, of course, and that was the fault of the passenger), and I’m willing to bet almost everyone has wanted to do something like that at one point or another. I’m sure countless people will be staring out their office window tomorrow, wishing they had an inflatable slide to jump onto.
