HBO Leads All Other Networks In 2008 Emmy Nominations

The Emmy nominations were announced today, with cable series Mad Men and Damages leading the rest of the pack..Washington (ChattahBox) – The Emmy nominations were announced today, with cable series Mad Men and Damages leading the rest of the pack.

AMC’s Mad Men, a drama set in the world of the 1960s, managed to take 16 nominations overall.

FX’s Damages also held its own was it, along with Mad Men, became the first cable shows to receive best-series nominations.

The HBO mini-series John Adams recorded 23 nominations, while 30 Rock on NBC received 17 nominations.

The other nominees for best drama included Showtime’s Dexter, as well as ABC’s Lost, and Boston Legal. Fox’s House also received a nod.

For best comedy, it is between NBC’s 30 Rock, HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, The Office, as well as CBS’s Two And A Half Men.

For lead drama actor, it is between Jon Hamm of Mad Men, Gabriel Bryne of In Treatment, Michael C. Hall of Dexter, and Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad.

For lead drama actress, it is between Kyra Wedgwick of The Closer, Holly Hunter of Saving Grace, Glenn Close of Damages, Sally Field of Brothers & Sisters, as well as Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order: SVU.

Some which were left out, such as ABC’s Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy, received four and five nods each.

HBO led all networks with 85 nominations, above ABC in second with 76.

The Emmy Awards will be held on September 21st and will be broadcast on ABC.
