The Dark Knight, from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros., managed to gross $155.4 million in its first weekend.

This put it above the previous record-holder for an opening weekend, Spider-Man 3 which took in $151.1 million a year ago.

The domestix box office broke records with $250 million in tickets sales over a three-day gross as well.

Overall, the box office has been lagging compared to the numbers in managed to do in 2007.

The hope from analysts now though is that The Dark Knight will continue its push and lead the box office back to where it was a year ago, and beyond. It may only take one, as The Dark Knight has proven to be an amazing draw.
