The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, has managed to win the box office for a third weekend, earning $43.8 million for the three days beginning Friday.

The film, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, beat out Universal’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which took in $42.5 million.

The Dark Knight is now poised to become the second-biggest movie of all time, and could end up beating out the Titanic before it is all said and done.

The other big opening for the weekend came from Walt Disney Co., with their political comedy known as Swing Vote.

Swing Vote, starring Kevin Costner, opened at No. 6 taking in just $6.3 million.

The total for The Dark Knight is now at $394.9 million, and is expected to possibly top $500 million or more before it is all said and done.

It is fully expected that it will surpass the No. 2 movie of all time, 1977’s Star Wars, which took in $461 million.

The Dark Knight also has a chance to beat out the No. 1 movie of all time, Titanic, at $601 million.
