A triumphant return to the big screen for Henry “Indiana” Jones and Harrison Ford in the fourth installment of the franchise that has spawned numberous spin-offs, television shows and live stunt shows at major theme parks around the world.
The film takes place during the Cold War where Dr. Jones finds himself having been kidnapped by Russian terrorists in search of a alien tomb said to be containing a crystal skull with mythical powers. Whomever is in possession of the skull will control a power that could control the world. Along the way a whole new generation of Indiana Jones fans are introduced to characters from the original films, at the same time old fans are introduced to new characters of the franchise. The most notable of this is Mutt Williams played by Shia LeBouf. As the film unravels we learn that Mutt is the son of Indiana Jones long lost love Marion Ravenwood, and that he is Indiana’s son. Indiana and Mutt team up to find Marion and Professor Oxley who have been kidnapped by the Russians to help them find the crystal skull and lead them to the treasure that could spell certain victory to the east and demise to the west.
The film is a fantastic re-introduction of the franchise and the open ending to it allows for future development of the franchise utilizing it’s new characters and new audience. The Bonus Features take this very fact, the re-introduction, into account as it takes you into great detail the making of featurettes and Return of a Legend featurette. These along with the many many many interviews with the cast and crew are spread out amongst two discs and are worth the time but can be a bit redundant.
