JK Rowling’s ‘Tales of Beedle the Bard’ debuts Thursday with clues to ‘Harry Potter’ finale

December 2, 2008

(ChattahBox) — J.K. Rowling is back with another fantasy book. While Harry Potter’s adventures ended in 2007 with the seventh book in the blockbuster series, Deathly Hallows, a book of five fairy tales called ‘The Tales of Beedle the Bard’, written and illustrated by Rowling, goes on sale Thursday.

In Deathly Hallows, the ‘Beedle the Bard’ book is given to Hermoine by Hogwarts headmaster Dumbledore. Just another good reason for Potter fans to buy it! Deathly Hallows, had a first printing of 12 million. But with the success of Harry Potter and Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, it’s likely Beedle will be a big seller. The book’s first printing is set at 3.5 million copies. Advance sales of the book are going for a discounted $12.99. Though Amazon already has 100,000 copies being published as part of a $100 collector’s edition.

The book consists of stories that wizard parents tell their children. The stories even hold clues that help Harry destroy Voldemort. Unfortunately, as with the Potter books, no review copies have been made available to the critics and nothing has been leaked on the internet, so no one knows what to expect. However a rep from Rowling’s publishers says, “They feel like folk tales or fairy tales that have been around forever. They’re as good as any Grimm tale that you might have read in your own childhood. But that’s just Rowling’s incredible skill.”

Eager Potter fans around the world will get their hands on this book when it goes on sale this Thursday as it’s been published in 38 languages.
