2009 Rock Hall inductees Announced

January 14, 2009

Cleveland (ChattahBox) — The 2009 Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced. Run-DMC, Metallica, Jeff Beck, soul singer Bobby Womack and R&B group Little Anthony & the Imperials are among the artists chosen by the 600 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.  Other inductees this year include: Rockabilly singer Wanda Jackson who will be inducted in the “early influence” category. This year’s sidemen inductees are session musician Spooner Oldham and Elvis Presley’s drummer D.J. Fontana and bassist Bill Black.

Inductees are eligible for inclusion 25 years after their first recording is released. Run-DMC is only the second rap act to get Rock Hall honors, following the induction of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five in 2007. Meanwhile, this marks the second time famed guitarist Beck will be recognized by the Rock Hall; he was also honored as a member of English rockers the Yardbirds in 1992. This year’s crop will be inducted in a ceremony at Cleveland’s Public Hall, and tickets will be available via Ticketmaster on Jan. 26. Past galas have been held in New York.

Among the artists nominated but snubbed included early punkers the Stooges, funk act War and disco leaders Chic.
