Subway hasn’t ‘frosted flaked’ on Michael Phelps despite the rumors

(ChattahBox) — The Michael Phelps bong-gate saga continues. There were some rumors that spread like wildfire on gossip sites yesterday, that Subway had officially dropped Michael Phelps after they recently announced a sponsorship deal. Before Michael’s bong hit indiscretion hit the headlines, Michael Phelps was featured on the Subway web site but seemed to disappear, perhaps spawning the conjecture. This rumor seemed more believable after cereal and snack marketer Kellogg’s said it would not resign the Olympic hero as an endorser. But perhaps reacting to the false claims, Subway said Friday night it was supporting the Olympic swimming star.

“Like most Americans, and like Michael Phelps himself, we were disappointed in his behavior,” Subway said in a statement. “Also like most Americans, we accept his apology. Moving forward, he remains in our plans.”

According to AdAge.com though, Subway was likely to “backburner” its first TV campaign starring Phelps, until things cool off a bit.

    Subway is the PERFECT sponser for the ganga using Olympic hero.
    What’s better after a full evening than a bag of Doritos and a twelve inch sub?

    Taco-bell and Frito Lay are missing the perfect tie in opportunity, IMHO.
