Lead singer Page leaves Barenaked Ladies on the heels of drug bust

February 25, 2009

(ChattahBox) — The popular Canadian band Barenaked Ladies, and it’s lead singer Steven Page, 38, are going their separate ways, the group announced on Wednesday:

“By mutual agreement, Steven Page will be parting company with the remaining members of Barenaked Ladies,” the band said on its Web site, saying Page would be pursuing solo projects.

Page was arrested in July 2008 and charged with drug possession after police found the singer with cocaine at an upstate New York apartment. In October, the charges were reduced to a misdemeanor.

No mention of the drug bust was mentioned but one has to think it may have had something to do with the breakup.

The two-time Grammy nominated band will continue to record and tour together, and plan to start recording a new album in April 2009, followed by a tour in the fall.
