Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johannson now signed for Iron Man 2

March 12, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Good news for Iron Man and Marvel Comic book movie fans I believe. Mickey Rourke is now signed up to play the Crimson Dynamo, who I think was Iron Man’s first villain foe in the original comics (tales of Suspense)? (please correct me!) In Iron Man 2 the Dynamo character will be a heavily tattooed Russian arms dealer who also happens to pack a nuclear-powered suit of armor. The news follows closely on the heels of a previous announcement that Samuel Jackson will be in Iron Man 2, as General Nicholas Joseph “Nick” Fury. Both Rourke and Jackson claimed they were dumping the movie because Marvel tried to lowball them on acting fees. Apparently Marvel finally decided to make good instead of seeking other actors. I think they made a wise choice.  On a side note Nikki Finke says that Sony was also considering hiring Mickey to play the villain in Spider-Man 4. I am thinking that is probably now dead with Rourke onboard for Iron Man.
Scarlett Johannson has also signed on to play the Black Widow  for Iron Man 2, instead of  Emily Blunt, again according to Nikki who follows the Hollywood studio beat. Nikki hears that unlike Rourke and Jackson, Johannson jumped at a lowball offer and she will be stuck with it for a while because her charater ties her to countless movies, including the ensemble The Avengers. As for Blunt,  Nikki says she fell out not by choice but only because Fox exercised an option that the studio had on her, to make her do the upcoming film starring Jack Black, Gullivers Travels. I am not sure Scarlett is a good substitute despite her great popularity and new brunette look, but we will see.

Mickey Rourke will be a great addition to the Iron Man crew; he’s a really talented actor despite all the other drama
