Lance Armstrong injury worse then thought – but he hopes to race again in May

March 25, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong found out his broken collarbone is a bit more serious than first thought, but still plans to ride in the Giro d’Italia race in May.

It turns out his injured collarbone, is in “multiple pieces” of broken bone, instead of one clean break as anticipated.

Lance will have surgery to insert a plate to stabilize the collarbone, today in Austin, Texas.

Although the recovery typically takes four to six weeks, Armstrong hopes his will heal faster, and previous history is on his side.

While his target is to compete at Giro runs from May 9-31, the big goal is to stay on track for the The Tour de France, which is July 4-26.
