Madonna files to adopt a second Malawian child

March 26, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Madonna wants to expand her family again, and is looking to adopt a second child from the African country of Malawi, the native country of her adopted son David.

A couple weeks ago speaking to Malawi’s Nation newspaper the singer said: “Many people – especially our Malawian friends – say that David should have a Malawian brother or sister,” she further adds “It’s something I have been considering but would only do if I had the support of the Malawian people and the government.”

And now an official at the Malawi welfare department confirms to the Associated Press that Madonna, has now  filed adoption papers. Another source tells the AP that she is visiting Malawi this weekend and that a court could hear her adoption case as early as Monday.

In 2006 when Madonna adopted David she was accused of tampering with rules of that country, partly because foreigners are required to reside in the country for over a year before they can adopt a local children. Madge adopted David when he was 13-months-old after his father had placed him in an orphanage following the death of his wife

“It’s something I have been considering, but would only do, if I had the support of the Malawian people and the Government.”

A Malawian court only approved the adoption of David, 3, last year. Madonna, 50, recently divorced director husband Guy Ritchie and reportedly moved in her young boy toy boyfriend Jesus Luz, 22.  Whether her domestic flux, will hurt her chances to adopt again remains to be seen.
