Obama Family Settles On A ‘Lucky’ Dog For The White House

April 11, 2009

Washington D.C. (ChattahBox) – The Obama’s have a new addition to the family coming on Tuesday.

A little boy, Portuguese Water Dog (not the one pictured) will be joining the First Family next week, from a kennel down in Texas, with the help of Senator Ted Kennedy’s family (more below). The dog, so far named ‘Charlie’, (but likely to change to Bo we hear) was once owned by another family, who, after a few months, returned the dog to the kennel. While it isn’t clear why, it probably is a blessing in disguise for the black an white canine, who will now become the pet of the President’s daughters, Malia and Sasha.

According to TMZ: the kennel has sold the Kennedys three Portuguese Water Dogs in the past, all from the same lineage. The dog the Obamas will be getting is from the same lineage as the Kennedy dogs.

Water Dogs are well known for their good nature, friendliness and high energy. According to the Portuguese Water Dog Club Of America (PWDCA), they lack an undercoat, which can cause people with allergies to have reactions, as the coat sheds. This makes them a great choice for anyone who has trouble with dog hair.

I thought the president promised to get a shelter dog? What kind of message does it send that they decided to get a dog from a fancy breeder when so many milions are killed each year at shelters because there are not enought homes? I feel lied to.

Might be a good idea to find out why this dog was returned to the kennel. Biting, destroying household items, generally being snappy and hard to train – not a good choice. Did the Kennedys ram this choice down their throat? Never knew Obama was that close to Teddy. And the Obamas are not water people – the Kennedys are – Teddy is always on the beach or out on his sailboat when in Massachusetts. A better choice would be a poodle – also no allergies and easy to train. A small one since its for the girls. Why such an esoteric breed? With all the purebred dogs ending up in the shelter because of the economic situation, the Obamas would have their pick. What are the Kennedys to them and why are they involved in this at all?

Check out my website for some dog health tips.

Love it !! Couldn’t of made a better choice, and although NOT from a shelter a gift. The message to me is NOT a gift then from the shelter.

I hope many people will follow in the footsteps of the first family and give a home to ANY animal, preferably from a shelter but if not take them in anyway.

    Love and Light
