Slumdog Millionaire actress Rubina Ali’s Father Denies Claims He Tried To Sell Her

April 21, 2009

India (ChattahBox) – The father of the nine-year-old Slumdog Millionaire actress Rubina Ali is under investigation after an undercover story by the News of the World exposed his and his second wife’s attempt to sell the girl to the highest bidder.

The charge alleges that Rafiq Qureshi and his wife tried to sell Rubina for $29,000, in an attempt to cash in on her fame. When the News of the World caught wind of this, they posed as potential buyers and videotapes a meeting with the man. The videotape has not yet been released.

While Qureshi originally defended his actions saying he had to do what was ‘best for his family and Rubina’, after the police were called he has recanted the statement, denying the claims made by NOTW.

The police investigation is continuing, and no charges have been officially filed, although the mother, Khurshida, is planning on pressing charges.
