Underdog Kris Allen sneaks past Adam Lambert to win American Idol

May 21, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – American Idol has just finished another season, and this time with yet another shocker, after Kris Allen won over the almost certain victory of Adam Lambert.

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last several months, you have at least heard of Adam Lambert. Even those of us who are not serious Idol fans have heard of him. He has stunned the judges and audiences again and again with his performances, and his victory seemed absolute.

Sorry to disappoint, my Lambert Lovers, but in a last surge of support, Kris Allen has taken the crown as America’s new Idol.

Whether it was the few performances that just didn’t pan out, political disputes over his open homosexuality, or just the fact that people finally got sick of hearing his name, Adam Lambert has come in second.

However, I think it will be similar to times past, where the winner has managed to come in much less popular then their lost competitors. Just look at David Archuleta vs. David Cook, Clay Aiken vs. Ruben Studdard. Chris Daughtry vs. Taylor Hicks.

Yes, I think we have a lot coming from Lambert in the future.

“Whether it was the few performances that just didn’t pan out, political disputes over his open homosexuality, or just the fact that people finally got sick of hearing his name, Adam Lambert has come in second.”

More likely, people got sick of ringers and being told who to vote for. Clay Aiken nailed this in his blog entry. Read here:

Hi there! I’m a mother and a devout Christian, too! As viewer, I recognize that American Idol is a singing talent contest open to all, regardless of orientation or religion. It is not supposed to be a popularity contest for a certain class of persons. Among all of Season 8’s contenders, Adam Lambert is the amazing artist and the best singer, gifted with a powerful voice. America’s vote for Kris, or its vote against Adam, seems to be a contemptuous hate vote against that portion of America that Adam stands for. ADAM LAMBERT DESERVED TO WIN. Even Kris Allen himself knows this in his Christian heart, so much so that as soon as he was unexpectedly handed the undeserved crown, he openly admitted in public that “Adam deserves this…” — righteously adhering to glaring truth and instinctively repudiating ridiculous vote results that were surely no act of God. Adam Lambert is the true winner!

Adam and Kris will both be just fine. I actually think the win was more important for Kris than it would have been for Adam. Oh, and Cook is more popular now than Archuleta – no contest there. And I thought that Clay came across as very bitter in his blog post. He needs to learn how to be respectful while still being honest.
