Dollhouse Star Eliza Dushku: Visits ex-Uganda Child Soldiers

June 4, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Eliza Dushku, who plays Echo in the FOX series, Dollhouse is on a hiatus before filming for the next season begins, and she decided to travel to Uganda to learn about the rest of the world, outside of Hollywood. Dushku traveled with her own personality intact to meet with former child soldiers and she returned in awe of their courage and hardships.

This isn’t the first time Dushku traveled to unique locations not usually considered vacation spots. Her mother, a political science professor, coordinates educational trips for her students through the organization, Global Exchange, such as the Uganda trip.

Dushku saw first hand the struggles the former child soldiers have in rejoining normal society, where they are stigmatized and still suffering from the trauma of their experiences.

Dushku has traveled with her mother and groups of college students to more than 30 countries and nearly all 50 states. Next on her travel itinerary are trips to Cuba and Vietnam.

Dollhouse was renewed for next season, which came as a surprise to some, because of its allotted time slot on Friday night, which virtually guaranteed it would quietly die after one season. But, the viewers who did discover the quirky Joss Whedon series, became dedicated fans, including this writer who looked forward to the innovative writing and Echo’s weekly personality changes.

After an exciting final season episode where Echo kicked some deranged rogue “doll’ butt, I’m hoping FOX gives Dollhouse a better time slot next season, so that more viewers can discover it.
