September 2, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – It has been announced that Charlie Gibson, anchor of the evening news program ‘World News’ has said that he will retire from the show this year.

Gibson, who has been the anchor of ‘World News’ for the past three years, took over for Bob Woodruff. Woodruff was badly injured when an IED went off on a road that he was traveling, during his correspondence in Iraq.

Gibson will be replaced by ‘Good Morning America’ anchor Diane Sawyer.

In his email to fellow staff, Gibson was quoted by MediaBistro.com as saying:

“It has not been an easy decision to make. This has been my professional home for almost 35 years. And I love this news department, and all who work in it, to the depths of my soul.”

He is expected to leave permanently in four months time.
