Olbermann Takes on Glenn Beck: To Save Nation from ‘The Stupid’

September 8, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Keith Olbermann, host of MSNBC’s “Countdown” has decided to wage a battle against Glenn Beck’s paranoid and conspiracy theory laden right-wing attacks against President Obama, using Beck’s own methods. Just recently, Beck and Fox News’ dogged campaign against White House staff member, Van Jones attacking him as a radical “extremist,” resulted in Jones’ resignation.

Over the weekend, Beck issued a tweet in all caps calling on “Watch Dogs” to send him dirt on three Obama officials, including Cass Sunstein, the nominee to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. Olbermann fought back, writing on the Daily Kos blog with a post entitled, “Send Me Everything You Can Find About Glenn Beck.”

Earning his first scalp with the resignation of Van Jones, Beck is out for more blood, to cull what he calls radical and Communist Czars from the Obama administration. On Sept. 2, Beck tweeted:

“Keep the Pressure on about the CZARS. Many of them too out of step with America and Freedom. Demand the President answers for each one.”

And a day later on Sept. 3, Beck upped the ante on his witch hunt with his tweet asking for dirt on Obama administration officials:

“Watch Dogs: FIND EVERYTHING YOU CAN ON CASS SUNSTEIN, MARK LLOYD AND CAROL BROWNER. Do not link before burning to Disc.”

Keith Olbermann responded with his own call for information on not only Glenn Beck, but also his radio producer Stu Burguiere, and Fox News president Roger Ailes. Olbermann updated his post to note that he didn’t decide “…out of the blue, to collect “dirt” on Glenn Beck,” but that he was responding to Beck’s witch hunt against the Obama administration issued on his Twitter feed.

Olbermann’s post promised to “…expand this to the television audience and have a dedicated email address to accept leads, tips, contacts.”

Olbermann added some comical “snark” about his request, but noted that he was serious:

“This becomes necessary after this in order to prove various cliches about goose and gander, and to remind everybody to walk softly and carry a big popsicle, and most particularly to save this nation from the Oligarhy of The Stupid.”

“Despite the worn-out snark above, I am in earnest here.”

What is sadly ironic in this whole Beck spectacle of “The Stupid” is his criticism of Van Jones, other White House officials and President Obama himself, as extremists, while Glenn Beck treats his Fox News audience to a nightly menu of bizarre right-wing fringe conspiracy theories, which border on the insane.

Beck attacked the President saying, he was a “racist” who has a “deep-seated hatred of white people.” This outrageous attack led to an advertising boycott of his program, by the organization Color of Change, which resulted in dozens of advertisers dropping his show. His attacks on Van Jones began, when he realized Jones was a former head of the advocacy organization for people of color.

Beck’s extremist views have their origins in the White Supremacist militia movement and the John Birch Society and its “New World Order” conspiracy theories.

There is not enough space here to cover all of Beck’s dangerous and unhinged right-wing extremist conspiracy theories espoused on his show, but below are a few provided courtesy of Crooks and Liars:

“Even before the election, he declared that Barack Obama was a Marxist. Then, after the election, he began calling Obama a communist and socialist. A few weeks later, he changed course and decided that Obama was actually leading us down the path to fascism.”

“He told his audience for several weeks running that he “could not disprove” the existence of concentration camps run by FEMA in which conservatives were to be rounded up.”

“He warned his audience about Obama’s supposed secret plot to grab our guns.”

“He also speculated that it is actually liberal “political correctness” that inspires right-wingers to go on murderous killing rampages.”

“Later, when a Beck fan named Richard Poplawski shot three Pittsburgh police officers because he believed the cops were going to take his guns away on behalf of President Obama…”

“He accused Al Gore of creating a new “Hitler youth” by promoting environmental awareness among young people.”

The above is just a tiny sampling of Beck’s dangerous and unhinged nightly rhetoric, where he continuously attacks President Obama as either a Socialist, Communist, Fascist or all three simultaneously just for good measure.

Isn’t Glenn Beck a convicted pedophile?

  2. anonymous on September 8th, 2009 3:22 pm

I heard from several reliable sources that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a woman in 1990.

    Is Olbermann still on TV?

    @Old Man Dotes:

    Sir,

As easy as I thought it would be at first, despite a thorough search of relevant sites & materials, I’ve been unable to unearth so much as a shred of evidence disproving your contention. Who would have imagined? That someone like this Beck character would be provided a national television platform from which to lead Republicans astray from the honest, wholesome, American path set out by Abraham Lincoln while pursuing some crypto-pedophilic agenda, is far more disturbing than any terrorist’s evil plot, hatched or otherwise, could ever be. Shame on Mr. Mays at ClearChannel, and shame especially on Mr. Ailes & Fox News. What shamelessly meretricious traitors to this once-proud country they’ve shown themselves to be, indeed…!

Glenn Beck is a moron and uneducated. Why does anyone listen to him? He never fact checks, he is a hypocrite and not even a true reporter. He is all about entertainment and lying to see how far his lies go. EGOTISTICAL MORON.

  7. David Klasna on September 8th, 2009 6:45 pm

Keith Olberman is an egotistical moron. Glenn Beck is the only honest reporter on television, and certainly has a love and concern for this country that noone in MSNBC has shown. Lay off Beck. He is not an elected official or an appointed Czar. Elected or appointed government leaders deserve our scrutiny and are required by their pledge to uphold the constitution of the US. When there are avowed communists and marxist in the government, as these people declare of themselves, then it is our (and Beck’s) right and responsibility to blow the whistle and do the investigation that the FBI or the President himself must not be doing. God save this country from the tyranny of these kind of people, Olberman included!

I thought Olbermann was just some blowhard, elitist baseball guy. Oh, wait…he is. Because surely we should just let our president nominate whomever for whatever position he creates with whatever authority he grants him…without even doing much of a background check. We should just trust his judgment completely…blindly. After all, it’s for our own good, right?

  9. paul on September 8th, 2009 8:16 pm

    Beck will destroy Albermann!!!!!

  10. Henry on September 8th, 2009 9:26 pm

Why can’t Olbermann actually look at the facts behind Beck’s assertions? Van Jones is a cop killer supporting, communist, racist. WHY should he have direct, unchecked access to the President, PLUS a $60B budget to play with? But no, Olbermann must be fine with this sort of person in the White House.

Olbermann, go back to ESPN where you actually used your powers for good. From way down town… BANG.

I heard from several reliable sources that Keith Olbermann raped and murdered a cow in 1990, then a goat in 1991, followed by a wild boar in Sumatra in 1992 then molested a 1959 Cadillac DeVille’s exhaust pipe in 1993. The following year he was caught exposing himself to Edgar Allan Poe’s grave in 1995 (one account reports Olbermann wearing a chrome pink cock ring). It is rumored that he takes a month long vacation and goes to the forests of Northern Vermont to live in the nude with Chris Matthews (which is where–according to several reliable sources–Chris developed his “tingle up my leg” sensation).

  12. Varebel on September 9th, 2009 2:25 am

Olbermann is “obsessed” with Fox News in General due to the fact that they have better ratings than all the other cable news combined and MSNBC is in …. last place…
Also, Olbermann used to work (if thats what you call it) at Fox sports, and guess what ? He was Fired!!!!
HE and Maddow,( the boy wannabe) Mathews (who get a tingle up his leg from Obama), and the rest of them are very bitter due to the fact that Fox News blows them out of the water/
Olbermann is a coward, he doesn’t even post his email address and remember him asking for “security” at the RNC convention? what a joke the tree hugging liberals will be in the minority again, don’t worry.

  13. Mick on September 9th, 2009 5:43 am

Ah poor Keith, desperate to be relevant. Maybe if the media did its job instead of being in the tank for Obama their wouldn’t be a Beck. But look at KO, Obama cheerleader number one, can you expect unbiased stories from him or Rachel Madcow?

  14. ernie on September 9th, 2009 10:50 am

Glenn Beck recommends the writings of former FBI Special Agent (and Birch Society endorser) W. Cleon Skousen.

Skousen (and his admirers) misrepresent Skousen’s FBI background.

Some claim that Skousen was a “top aide” to J. Edgar Hoover. Others think that Skousen had extensive investigative experience while he served in the FBI — particularly with respect to internal security-related matters. Both claims are falsehoods.

For a detailed report on Skousen which is based, primarily, upon his FBI personnel file, see the following 23-page report:

Hey, don’t be so hard on Glenn Beck. He’s my neighbor. I just found that out on Megan’s Law.com.

  19. Hatemonger(ironymuch?)1129 on September 9th, 2009 11:38 pm

first of all i would like to point out one glaring comment that to me lacked any sort of importance what so-ever.
” Even before the election, he declared that Barack Obama was a Marxist. Then, after the election, he began calling Obama a communist and socialist. A few weeks later, he changed course and decided that Obama was actually leading us down the path to fascism.”
    — First of all i would like to point out that there is a tie between these different societal/political forms and their differences are only found only in the syntax of each individual situation. Trying to distinguish between them on the basis of practical application of ideology is a tenuous effort at best.
    — Secondly, there is an obvious distinction between the ridiculous flaming that is going on by uneducated pseudo-citizens regarding Glenn Beck and his comments when you DO take into account syntax. The idea that ANY news group in the country (yes, even MSNBC people!) especially one in the fore front of the public eye would ever hire a convicted child molester/racist/murderer to represent them is preposterous.

  20. Hatemonger(ironymuch?)1129 on September 9th, 2009 11:38 pm

I seriously think that you cant be that stupid
If you are then YOU are the problem

Understanding the substance of a man can only be found through the inspection of his past and present actions; as well as the words from his mouth in their entirety.

    — P.S. —
For all of you pseudo-citizens who participate in class envy, hows it make you feel that Mr. Olberman is making a helluvalot of money catering to your stupidity?
Its like frakin R.A.W. out there with all the testosterone and everything 🙂

  21. Hatemonger(ironymuch?)1129 on September 10th, 2009 12:02 am

btw, if you are seriously getting your information from crooks and liars (who are mind numbing conformists) then sue, you are a disgrace even to the uberly intellectually dishonest idiots who populate that sight…

    have a nice day 🙂

  22. Mike on September 10th, 2009 6:48 am

Olbermann would sell his own mother to have an audience a quarter of the size of Beck’s.

Olbermann, the guy that’s such an intelligent, relevant, political commentator that he doesn’t have anyone on his show but leftist yes men from the New York Times and Newsweek is a complete joke. if he ever had anyone who actually disagreed with him on his show to engage in real debate his tiny little brain would explode. He’s kinda like Obama in that respect……He looks gr eat when it’s just him and the teleprompter but put someone in front of him with an unscripted comment or question and you can start to see the blood coming from his ear’s.

Keith Olbermann will never be able to do what Van “the man” Jones couldn’t. Jone is gone, Ubermann is still a crackpot that no one but communist race baiting losers watch and Glenn Beck is doing just fine.

  23. Jon-in-CA on September 10th, 2009 12:30 pm

LATEST CABLE NEWS RATINGS: Sept 7, 2009

    Glenn Beck: 1,733,000

    KO/MSNBC: 397,000

The only reason MSNBC keeps KO around is because Air-America wouldn’t take him… and apparently NBC’s Jeff Zucker appreciates Keith “servicing” him without having a gag-reflex.

  24. Jason on September 11th, 2009 6:29 pm

Glenn Beck may be a psycho with anger management issues, but that’s what get’s you ratings. And that is all that matters: having an audience.

The numbers posted by Jon-in-CA tell the only story you need.

  25. Chuck Roberts on September 13th, 2009 10:59 am

Without Fox News keeping us informed of what is truly going on with this administration and Congress; we will lose the Republic which our founding fathers left us.

  27. Larry on October 22nd, 2009 6:52 pm

I don’t understand why these folks attack a mans religion unless they simply do not have anythiing else to use.

All Beck is saying is that our Government is not being run according to the Constitution which all these lying politicians took an oath to protect, and that our Country is broke because of the same politicians.

The future of our nation is at stake, and these fools want to kill the messenger.

    It makes no sense
