Terrorist Plot May Have Been Aimed At NY Transport System

September 18, 2009

New York (ChattahBox) – A raid last week that targeted several terror suspects living in New York may have busted up a plot to bomb the NYC transport system.

According to officials the raids turned up a fair amount of evidence of a pending attack, including what initial testing has shown to be possible explosives. They also found maps, blueprints, and bomb making instructions.

The FBI believes it to be a plot similar to that of the 2004 bombing in Madrid, Spain, which left almost 200 people dead, and over 1,400 injured.

One man, an Afghan-born limo driver who was visiting New York City from Colorado has been put under questioning. Officials say that he was staying with a friend whose house came under the attention of investigators, and that his computer contained blueprints for making bombs.

Najibullah Zazi’s attorney, however, told CNN that this was nonsense.

“There’s no diagram of a bomb. There’s no information like that. Do you really think the FBI would have allowed us to walk out of here last night?”

Friends of Zazi have also said that the claims are ridiculous, and that Zazi is a nice, ‘geeky’, well liked young man that would never plot a terrorist attack. They have also said that he did not seem to have any strong ties to religion, much less extremist groups.

He is currently being questioned by the FBI, but is not being held.
